2013 Evergreen Concert

This has become an annual event, featuring performances from past pupils.

The 2012 Evergreen Concert was a great success, and raised €6200 for the Action Breast Cancer project.

The Evergreen Concert 2013 will take place in the school on Friday, 26th April, 2013, and all profits from the night will go towards the Scholarship Programme.

€6200 raised for Action Breast Cancer

A wonderful line up of Green Past Pupils entertained the capacity crowd in the assembly hall on Friday, 27th April for the first Evergreen Concert.

The varied programme featured piano, harp, flute, cello, harp and poetry, as well as ballet and singing (solo and choral) performances.

The M.C. for the night was Gemma Doorly, and those performing included Jenny Porter, Annemarie O’Farrell, Úna Crawford O’Brien, Ellen Fitzgerald, Katie Flanagan, Laura Mc Cabe, Máire Ní Chearbhaill, Helen Ni Chearbhaill and Verdi 53, directed by Caoimhe Ni Áinle.

Throughout the evening the performers were accompanied by Daniel Ford and Niamh Kenny.

We were very fortunate to have a wonderful team of students from the school on hand who between them, showed people to their seats, worked the lighting and sound systems, and sold raffle tickets at the interval. A great night was had by all!

All proceeds from the ticket sales and the raffle were sent to the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer Programme. In all, €6200 was raised, a fantastic amount!

The GPPA would like to thank all those who made the event such a success – Caoimhe Ní Áinle (concert co-ordinator & director of Verdi 53), Tríona Barrett (School Principal), Mary Mc Ateer (Deputy Principal), The Board of Management, the artistes, the accompanists, 4th an 5th year students, all those who generously donated raffle prizes and of course, all those who attended or made a donation.
The huge success of the event ensures that this may well become an annual event for your calendar.

Verdi 53 Christmas Carolling

Verdi 53 took to the streets on Thursday, 15th December to raise money for the Loreto Union charity fund.

We stood outside Marks and Spencers on Grafton Street from 6 until 8, and in that time raised over €1000. Afterwards we took over the snug in The Chatham Brasserie, where the management looked after us royally. We even ventured out at one stage to give an impromptu performance for the other diners!

Many thanks to the Loreto Union for inviting us to sing, to Sr. Marion our wonderful accompanist, and to our team of collectors. All agreed it was a great night.

Loreto Union Day 2011

Loreto Union Day 2011 was held in Loreto Abbey, Dalkey.

The day’s proceedings began with Mass, at which the Green Past Pupils’ choir, Verdi 53, was invited to sing. Loreto past pupils from all over Ireland attended, and enjoyed a wonderful harp recital afterwards. Teas and coffees were served, and there was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends.

Drop-In Day a Great Success!

On Saturday, 3rd December, the school was open to Green Past Pupils and friends to drop in for tea, coffee, mince pies and a little Christmas spirit. Many Green Past Pupils took up the invitation, and brought with them gifts for under the Christmas Tree, all of which were delivered to Sr. Bernadette to distribute among the many families she helps. Cosmetics and toiletries were delivered to the Women’s Refuge in Rathmines.

There was a wonderful atmosphere in the school that day.

Many thanks to Ms. Barrett for making the school available to us, to all who decorated the canteen area, and to the GPPA Committee for all their hard work throughout the day. And of course, a very big thank you to all the Green Girls who came up trumps as usual. Sister Bernadette and the Women’s Refuge have asked that we pass on their thanks to you all for your generosity.

If you were unable to drop in on the 3rd, but would still like to make a donation, you can do so by contacting Catherine-Anne at 087-2941685.
